A stretch of the pipeline is seen high in the Anatolian Mountains of Turkey. The pipeline is a year behind schedule, but the BTC Company says the first tanker will leave the Ceyhan terminal full of oil at the end of next month.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline runs through three countries between the Caspian and Mediterranean seas.

A man reads on his boat in the small Turkish fishing village of Yumurtalik, a few miles down the coast from the new Ceyhan terminal of the Caspian pipeline. Locals say the expected tanker traffic will ruin fishing for them.

Some of the giant tanks of the Ceyhan terminal, which is officially named the Heydar Aliev Terminal, after Azerbaijan's ex-president. The rust-colored tanks in the background belong to a different pipeline, which runs from Kirkuk in neighboring Iraq.
