The nation celebrated the opening of its first Parliament on April 23, 1920, during the War of Independence. Nine years later, in 1929, the day was declared National Sovereignty and Children's Day by Kemal Ataturk.
The events that take place surrounding the celebrations, however, leave one more aghast than feeling glorious or proud."
