"Unifar suspected over Tuzla pollution

After a week of speculations about who was responsible for burying barrels of toxic waste in Tuzla, the Environment and Forestry Ministry yesterday filed a complaint against Unifar Chemicals.
The Gebze Gendarmerie Command issued a search warrant last week to enter Unifar Bulk Pharmaceutical Chemicals, the company that has been charged with illegally disposing of the toxic waste products.
A few days ago the gendarmerie detained four people, including ex-municipality worker Serafettin Eyuboglu, but were forced to release them in short order as changes to the Environment Law have not yet passed through Parliament. The bill is expected to be debated this week."
