"Foreigners buy 1206 homes in first quarter

1,206 real estates were sold to foreigners in the first quarter of 2006, it was reported on Tuesday.
Sales were halted last July after several articles of the law (authorizing foreigners to purchase property in Turkey) were annulled by Constitutional Court. The sales resumed on January 7th, 2006 when new arrangements came into effect.
According to Title Deeds & Cadastre DG, a total of 412,000 square meters of real estate (1,206 houses) were sold to 1,565 foreigners since then.
Foreigners acquiring real estate in Turkey in the first quarter of the year came from 24 countries and Britons top the list. 588 UK citizens purchased 420 real estates, mostly in southern cities. Germans, who rank the second, acquired 258 houses. Number of Germans purchasing property in Turkey is 267. Irish, Dutch, Norwegian, Belgian and Greek citizens are among foreigners acquiring properties. "
