TDN editorial by Yusuf KANLI
We Turks like to say there is not much different in the general behavioral patterns of Turks, Italians, Greeks and other nations of the Mediterranean basin.
Indeed, this national comparison hypothesis may have some relevance, but what is definite is that we have not much in common with today's people of Greece or Italy. The similarity we have with Italy was the Italy of, let's say, the 1940s and 1950s, when chauvinism and nationalism were credible currency, or in the 1980s and 1990s, when some deep dark forces were almost sovereign in that country. Our similarity with Greece was more with the Greece of the 1960s and 1970s, when military dominance in politics was the rule of the game."
