Milliyet's Sami Kohen, in his column on Wednesday, says the European Union is doing everything in its power to anger the Turkish public.
An EU General Affairs and External Relations Council decision to approve 139 million euros in financial assistance to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) only to suspend the aid has hurt the Turks' trust in the EU, says Kohen. The two parts of the EU support package approved before the April 2004 referendum on the island is in limbo, with one part of the aid package tied to �appropriate political conditions.� What Ankara and the KKTC were eagerly awaiting was approval of the second part, notes Kohen."
