The Turkish government yesterday sought to reassure investors that monetary policy and the independence of the central bank were intact despite the president's rejection of its nominee to be the bank's next governor.

Amid an intensifying political fight between the government and the president over the central bank post, Ali Babacan, the economy minister, said a new governor would be nominated but the bank's commitment to an independent monetary policy and the fight against inflation would not be weakened."
