Ankara. Today Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer vetoed an act making possible former Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan to serve his sentence under house arrest, Turkish TV station TRT informs.
The Turkish President pointed out the changes in the act were against the principles of the constitutional state.
“We cannot adopt a law only to serve private interests and in favor of some persons”, Sezer stated. He noted the public knows the changes in the Execution of Sentences and Security Measures Act aim at solving the Erbakan case by allowing him to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest without returning the money he has embezzled from the Turkish Treasury. "
