Is Turkey a political platform for Hamas?
As breaking news that a Hamas delegation had arrived in Ankara to talk with the Turkish government reached the press, there was surprise and uproar both in Turkey and abroad. The Turkish government's decision to receive radical Islamist Hamas was, and is, a risky business but at the same time it's also a window of opportunity in the long run. The main architect of this idea, as daily Hurriyet's Ertugrul Ozkok indicated without giving his name, was Professor Ahmet Davudoglu, the principal intellectual architect of the Justice and Development (AK) Party government's foreign policy. Indeed Davudoglu's idea was correct about providing a political platform for Hamas on which they could give some messages to the world and also receive some via Turkey as the bridge between the East and West."
