"Istanbul, Kocaeli Provide Half of Treasury Income

Nearly half of the state revenues in 2005 was provided the province of Istanbul, Turkey's business hub, and by Kocaeli, the most industrialized city.
On Wednesday, Turkish Finance Ministry announced that only 13 provinces out of 81 made a net financial contribution to the state."
