The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) stated the Kemalist ideology may be criticized publicly, and found Turkey guilty in the case of Yilmaz Odabasi and Niyazi Kocak, imprisoned for insulting Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic.
Yesterday, the Strasbourg Court ruled on the appeal of Odabasi and Kocak, sentenced to an 18-month imprisonment in 1998 for violation of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) article on 'insult against Ataturk'."
