"EU's aid move: too little, too late
European Union foreign ministers on Monday approved a 139 million euro aid package to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC), 18 months after proposing it.
But the move was hardly a welcome development for the Turkish and Turkish Cypriot sides, which criticize the decoupling of the bloc's twin proposals to provide financial aid to the KKTC and allow direct trade.
Turkish Cypriot Ambassador in Ankara Tamer Gazioğlu criticized Monday's decision as a “face-saving attempt by the EU” after persistent failures to pass its proposed aid and trade measures, although he declined to say whether the aid would be rejected."
