Hürriyet-Star newspaper sold to Turkish Cypriot

"Star newspaper sold to Turkish Cypriot

A Turkish Cypriot business man, Ozmen Safa, has bought Star newspaper after putting in a winning bid of $5.15 million. The newspaper was sold off by the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) to the Turkish Cypriot businessman, after he outbid the Ipek Broadcasting group. Safa, who has worked in tourism, real estate and energy sectors in Cyrpus, has some 100 million pounds sterling invested in real estates in the UK. Speaking to the press he said that he planned to bring his experience of doing business in the UK to Turkey.

Star Media Group General Manager Edip Sözen told the Turkish Daily News, 'It is not clear yet as to whether the current staff will remain at the paper,' but added, 'it can only help the paper's situation.'"
