Ranjita Biswas visits the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, known as the largest covered market in the world with 4000 shops and 15,000 tradesmen.
A young, handsome boy ran out from a shop and pointed to the ‘bindi’ on my forehead, asking, “What does it mean? I have an Indian girlfriend. She wears it too.” A little taken aback, I explained it anyway, wondering inwardly how the world has become so seamless. Here I was in Istanbul’s famous Grand Bazaar, thousands of miles away from home and somebody asks to explain about our traditional Indian ‘bindi’!"
