...Wolfgang Schüssel: It is obvious that the expansion cannot continue forever. However, we must keep the commitments we have already given. Bulgaria and Romania have already been admitted. The countries on the Balkans have a clear European perspective. They belong to the European context without any doubt - from the point of view of geography, politics, and mentality. Turkey, however, is a “case apart”. It gained a status of a candidate state and we will start the talks. We should not go further because the EU's absorption capacity is also an important criterion. To stretch further the EU needs to seriously develop neighborhood policy. It will be a key element among the actions of the Commission'."
