ANKARA - TDN Parliament Bureau
World-renowned Turkish academic Professor Yıldırım Doğan, who was refused a visa by the Greek Embassy in Ankara for a visit to Thessaloniki earlier this year, has received an official apology from the European Union on behalf of Greece.
The academic was refused a visa for having a Turkish Republic of Cyprus (KKTC) visa in his passport. An EU official apologized to Turkey for what had happened and promised it would never be repeated. The rejection had caused the entire research team to cancel their trip, intended to wrap up work on a project supported by the European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA)."
