DURHAM -- The U.S.-led war in Iraq creates uncertainty in some quarters of neighboring Turkey but has led to a more stable atmosphere in northern Iraq.

Those were among the observations of two Turkish journalists visiting Durham on Monday as part of a 15-day journalist exchange program.

Arev Suna and Arif Arslan are editors, respectively, of an Istanbul newspaper and one in the city of Batman near Turkey's borders with both Iraq and Syria. With an interpreter, they visited The Herald-Sun's newsroom and planned to visit other newspapers in the Triangle, as well as the Poynter Institute for journalism in St. Petersburg, Fla."
