I asked a Turkish diplomat who was very close to the action while the EU and Turkey were facing a crisis, 'Who backed Turkey?' Because no matter what is said, EU countries are starting negotiations despite their public. If they had succumbed to public pressure, like the Austrian government did, they would have kept Turkey waiting for a while. So which powers intervened and ensured a Turkish victory? "
