"EU Survey: Slovenians in Favour of Croatia, Turkey EU Accession
The results of the Eurobarometer poll, published by the European Commission on Tuesday, 4 October, show that Slovenians support Croatia and Turkey in their bids to become EU members.
Croatia's EU entry was backed by 64% of the Slovenian surveyed, with 31% against. Meanwhile, 53% were for and 40% against Turkey's EU membership, the results reveal.
In both cases, Slovenia's support is above the EU average, as Croatia was favoured by 52% and opposed by 34% of all EU citizens surveyed.
As for Turkey, it was the other way around. While 35% backed its EU accession, more than half of the EU citizens (52%) took a stand against the large Muslim country to join the EU.
The survey was conducted in May and June 2005 on a representative sample of 23,500 citizens from all 25 EU member states.
