Istanbul, 9 Sept. (AKI) - Muslim leaders and scholars from Europe and Asia wrapped up their deliberations on the meaning of 'religion, culture and identity' at a week-long conference in Istanbul on Friday with many agreeing that Islam needs to improve its image. Speaking at the 6th Eurasia Islamic Conference, Ahmet Davutoglu, chief adviser to Turkey's Islamist premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said ordinary Muslims should enjoy freedom of expression within their communities and also warned that Islam shouLdn't be represented by a self-appointed select group of individuals, otherwise the religion risked being distorted."
