"Dynamic Turks would enrich EU

Angela Merkel has only herself to blame. Instead of waking up to a new era of much-needed economic reform, presided over by their first female chancellor, the people of Germany face a period of debilitating political paralysis. Merkel is undoubtedly an able politician, yet she frittered away an immensely strong political position with her lacklustre and complacent electoral campaign.
There is, however, one benefit in the current imbroglio. Merkel had indicated her intention to scupper the forthcoming talks about Turkey's proposed membership of the EU. This is one area of foreign policy where Tony Blair and Jack Straw send out all the right signals. They have the vision to see that Turkey has much to offer the EU."
