What has happened after five years of peace and tranquility that the Kurdish problem is now being mentioned in relation to bloodshed rather than democratic reforms and the widening participation based on cultural plurality? In 1999, Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the notorious Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) was captured and after a fateful trial was imprisoned. His defense was not based on legal grounds because he had nothing to hold on to on that front."
