Şanlıurfa, considered one of the oldest areas of settlement in Anatolia and the host to many civilizations, is also one of the world's most excavated regions.
Associate Professor Cihat Kurkcuoğlu from Harran University told the Anatolia news agency that archeologists, both local and foreign, had conducted more than 35 excavations in Şanlıurfa and its vicinity since 1960."
