"French Premier Says EU-Turkey Talks May Be Delayed (Update5)

Aug. 2 (Bloomberg) -- France threatened to derail Turkey's talks on joining the European Union, demanding that it first recognize Cyprus. Turkish stocks and bonds dropped and the lira weakened on the about-face by one of the EU's founding members.

``It doesn't seem to me that a process of negotiations can start with a country that doesn't recognize each one of the members of the EU,'' French Prime Minister Dominique De Villepin told Europe 1 radio today. ``Absolutely,'' he said when asked whether the negotiations, scheduled for Oct. 3, may be delayed."
