"Straw: Turkey's Strategical Importance Is Great
BRUSSELS - British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw stressed the strategical importance of Turkey's EU membership and said that EU should keep its promises.
Speaking at Foreign Affairs Committee meeting in European Parliament on Tuesday, Straw said that Turkey should remain within the framework of the EU, adding that this would be in the best interest of both Turkey and the EU. He noted that Turks are expecting a just approach from the EU and this expectation is right.
Noting that Turkey will join the EU when it met Copenhagen criteria, Straw said that Turkey has a big strategical importance. He added that Turkey's accession to the EU will help solution of Cyprus question, as well.
Straw said that Turkey-EU relations continue as it was planned."
