"Turkish Steel Giant Taps Cognex

Turkish metals giant Erdemir Steel bought five SmartView quality-inspection systems from Cognex (CGNX:Nasdaq - commentary - research).
Erdemir will use the SmartView systems to detect and classify defects such as scratches, dents and roll marks on the surface of steel as it undergoes various finishing processes, including continuous annealing, galvanizing, pickling and tinning, Cognex said. Installation at Erdemir's cold-rolled steel mill in Eregli, Turkey, is expected to be complete by the end of the month, the Natick, Mass.-based machine vision systems maker said. "
