2005-03-01
Authorities from Greece and Turkey have sounded an alarm over the spilled waters of Bulgaria's Arda and Maritsa rivers, media said.

The governors of the districts of Evros (Greece) and Edirne (Turkey) have talked to a Bulgarian colleague and insisted to receive updated information about the water level once in every hour.

Georgi Zarchev, the governor of southern Bulgarian district of Haskovo, has pledged to take every possible step for decreasing the river overflow to Greece and Turkey, the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) said.

The latest rains in Bulgaria have also caused trouble to local areas. Brimming-over Tundzha River has flooded many houses, forests and sown fields in the country's southeast."
