A failure to see that the Greek Cypriots do not want settlement has brought the current impasse in reunification efforts and the lingering isolation of the Turkish Cypriots, something that may take a toll on the KKTC�s pro-settlement parties in the upcoming elections

Throughout all the past few years that the international community has pressed for reunification between the Turkish and Greek Cypriot communities on the divided island of Cyprus, Greek Cypriot leaders have never desired a settlement and pro-settlement Turkish Cypriot political parties will not find themselves in an advantageous position in the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections due to continuing international isolation of their community which, in large part, is owing to the misidentification of the true opponents of the settlement, a retired top Turkish diplomat said."
