Government looks to Turkey for new approach
FOUR OF the political parties submitted written views on the way forward on the Cyprus issue at yesterdays National Council meeting, which will be continued on February 2.
Speaking after the lengthy meeting, government spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said some of the parties had submitted suggestions for discussion at the meeting to review the current situation.
As it was agreed during the last Council meeting in which President Papadopoulos gave a detailed briefing on the developments, political parties today began presenting their positions on the Cyprus problem, Chrysostomides said.
According to reports, opposition DISY submitted a 12-page proposal giving its views on the way forward. The Green Party also submitted a written document. According to a statement from the party it recommends that the European Constitution take centre stage as a means for securing a solution. Socialist EDEK and the Struggling Democratic Movement (ADIK) also submitted suggestions."
