"Rejected once, Turks still keen for Israel-Syria mediation role
Rebuffed last year by Israel in its attempts to mediate between Damascus and Jerusalem, Turkey will nonetheless continue trying, visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said Monday.
'We can do something' to mediate, Gul said at a press briefing with Israeli reporters soon after he arrived in the country. 'We have the capacity [to assist]. The Syrians trust us, and I hope the Israeli side also trusts us.' "
