"Seventy percent of Danes feel Turkey should enter EU - but only if the country pushes ahead with necessary political and economic reforms.

Danes may not be that skeptical of Turks joining the European Union (EU) after all. A new opinion poll made for Danish Industry shows that 70 percent of Danes feel that Turkey should enter EU, once they have made the necessary reforms.
Previous polls have shown a widespread skepticism in Denmark towards Turkey. A recent poll made for Jyllands-Posten indicated that 55 percent of Danes did not want EU to enter negotiations with Turkey next year.
Thomas Mller Srensen, head of project at Danish Industry, said the new poll demonstrated that Danes were ready to review their opinion, once Turkey lived up to EU standards.
'If you ask people if they want Turkey to join here and now, most of them are going to say no,' Srensen told the Copenhagen Post. 'But if you ask them if they think Turkey can ever enter EU, because of profound cultural or religious differences, most people say yes. They say once the political and economic reforms are in place, Turkey should be admitted to the union.'"
