"Turkey welcomes EU decision with reservations on Cyprus issue
11:28 - 17 December 2004 - Turks Friday welcomed the European Union's historic decision to open talks with Turkey next year, but expressed concern about the many difficulties the country must overcome before it can become the first Muslim member of the bloc, especially the 'de facto' recognition of Cyprus.
For decades, E.U. membership has been a Turkish dream and E.U. leaders agreed late Thursday to open talks with the country on Oct. 3, 2005 aimed at eventual E.U. membership. "
