Turkey has agreed to a deal which will allow talks on EU membership to commence after agreeing to formally acknowledge Cyprus.
The main sticking point had been over Turkey's failure to formally recognise Cyprus. But now Turkey has offered a statement of good intent that it will sign an EU accord to acknowledge Cyprus before the start of accession talks between Ankara and the 25-member bloc.
