Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey's prime minister, has promised to continue widespread reforms after winning agreement to begin accession talks with the European Union, and warned that the country still had a lot to do before it could join the EU.
Addressing 4,000 supporters in Ankara at the weekend after returning from an EU summit in Brussels, Mr Erdogan pledged to create a �different� Turkey to overcome fears in many European countries that it is too big, too poor and too Muslim to be a member of the union."
