European Union leaders warned Turkey Thursday to recognise Cyprus if it wants to join the EU family, at summit talks expected to give Ankara a conditional 'yes' to accession talks. In a hint of a compromise on the divided Mediterranean island, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he expected a deal with the EU by the summit's scheduled end of 1:00 pm (1200 GMT) Friday. 'It will be resolved at one (o'clock),' he told reporters after pre-summit talks with Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, the EU summit's chairman. Erdogan earlier said that Turkey 'could have a positive attitude' to the EU's demands on Cyprus -- but only after the summit, apparently unwilling to allow the issue to entirely hijack Turkey's EU aspirations.
