The traditional Islamic political movement in Turkey under Erdogan's leadership stuck to the goals and means of the traditional Islamic movements across the Islamic world. These goals and slogans were a painstaking issue for the national political movements, governing institutions and the foreign forces that have influences and interests in Turkey. Many times, the Turkish army intervened to determine the form of governance; either through a military coup that would topple the democratically elected government, or by threatening the government in order to follow the methodology that would please the elite and governing forces. Conversely, this political conflict in Turkey resulted in the deprivation of the movements with Islamic tendencies from political conduct."
