Islamic State seizes major Syrian oil fields, aids Assad regime

ISTANBUL — Extremist fighters of the Islamic State, already in control of a third of Iraqi territory, are on the attack in Syria, where they’ve seized more oil fields, facilitated the Assad regime’s advance in Aleppo and started a new offensive against Kurds, Syrian opposition figures say.

Israel said on Friday it was reducing its diplomatic presence in Turkey after protesters angered by its ground offensive into Gaza pelted its consulate in Istanbul with stones and draped Palestinian flags on the ambassador's residence in Ankara.

Israel orders families of diplomats to leave Turkey

Israel ordered on Friday families of Israeli diplomats in Turkey to return following protests outside the Israeli diplomatic missions in Ankara and İstanbul.

Israel also further decreased the number of its diplomats in Turkey, according to a statement from Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman's office on Friday carried by Israeli media. Diplomatic relations between Turkey and Israel were already downgraded after the Israeli raid of the Turkish aid ship Mavi Marmara in 2010. The Israeli ambassador in Ankara was expelled in the course of the crisis.
