"‘Osman’s Dream’
I write this from Amsterdam fresh from attending a family celebration. It's not that I have any Dutch uncles, but I have come to regard the history of the Ottoman Empire, penned over several years by my wife, Caroline, almost as real a member of our household as our child. It is gratifying to see that both our daughter and the book now have independent lives of their own. In the case of the book, 'Osman's Dream,' it has crossed the Atlantic to be published in America, has appeared in Turkish and Greek language editions and is due to be published in Russian. The Dutch, 'De Droom van Osman,' has just hit bookstore shelves, and the very excellent Turkey Institute (based in The Hague) organized an Ottoman history evening to help speed it on its way."
