Canberra is straining the bonds with Turkey that have grown since 1915.
It seems that there is a turf war going on between the Turkish and the Australian governments, 90 years after the Gallipoli campaign.
It possibly began 18 months ago when the Prime Minister talked about placing Gallipoli on the heritage list. His not-so-carefully chosen words breaching the concept of sovereignty of Turkish lands may have upset the Turkish Government. This was followed by another faux pax when the Governor-General, on opening the POW memorial at Ballarat in February last year, made historically incorrect statements about Anzac POWs held by Turks."
